Czech based Hurricane OO-HUR was destroyed today when it crashed into a house during a display at Cheb. The pilot was sadly killed.

What a shame.

Tragically the pilot perished, but at least it seems no one on the ground was injured or killed.

Cheers

Pilot has been named as Petr Paces.

From this short video clip, it departed from controlled flight during a low level and steep wingover : -

Not dissimilar to the depart from controlled flight situation Brian Brown got into in Hurricane G-HURR at Shoreham airshow back in 2007 :(

Hard to tell but could it have been one of those G-LOC events?

Could be. Looked to me like he got a wing drop that put him somewhat inverted, then he didn't have enough speed/altitude/available G to pull through from the inverted attitude.

Sadly, he looked slow in the entry of the maneuver and didn't carry enough energy through the pull up.

RIP

Agree with Lynn. He pulled vertical and the airplane looks really slow, less than 100 knots. He also turned right, into the torque of the V-12 Merlin. Then he rolled in the bank angle which raises stall. I don't know precisely what happened but it wasn't G-Loc. Very few G's being pulled so slow. He seemed to continue to try to fly the airplane through the problem. Chopping the power on the recovery and leveling wings might have helped. Maybe an aerobatic expert can tell us what they see.

Video from inside the airfield of the display and fatal wingover.

https://youtu.be/bsKgBWj42do

All very gentle and innocuous stuff (therefore highly unlikely of any G induced incapacitation of the pilot), but possibly a little slow at the top of the wing over, combined with a tight turn to align back on the display axis, leading to the stall/departure.

He looked slow going down the runway before the pullup.

I'm guessing looking at that 'display routine' that ex-Mig21 pilot hadn't spent much time with any experienced Hurricane display pilots prior to working up a routine on the Hurricane.........

Sad end to KZ321......
The Hurricane will bite if you don't know what your doing or take too many liberties with it at such low levels.
