Warbird Information Exchange

Does anyone have any experience with researching at the USAF Museum's Library? What's the best way to make an appointment with them?

A few years ago their website indicated you could make requests for information via snail mail. I have sent three letters in the past requesting different information. I have yet to receive a reply to any of them.

From what I understand the post 11 September 2001 security enhancements has made it difficult for library volunteers to work. You however, a member of the USAF, might easily get permission to access what ever they have.

If you find out how an average Joe like me can make requests for information, let me know.

Yes, they still have a nice website detailing the "how" and "what" of going there. They only take requests via mail, as you say.

I was mostly curious about peoples' experiences because of my experiences as the NASM Library. Their website made it look incredibly difficult to get research done there. I found, however, that when I got there it was all very easy. As a bonus, Dan Hagedorn was the research librarian on staff that day, so he was extremely helpful to what I was researching there....

I was hoping that there might be an "inside scoop" or something. I'm personally trying to stay away from using my active duty military status to get access. Since I intend on using my research in a book that I intend to sell, I don't want there to be any potential conflicts-of-interest or perception that I was using a government job/time for personal gain.
