I just posted pictures I took while on vacation in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

http://community.webshots.com/user/turretmike

I toured the CFB Greenwood Museum, the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum at the Halifax airport. I also checked out Lancaster KB882 at the Edmundston Municipal Airport in New Brunswick and CFB Cornwallis, Nova Scotia which is now closed, but still has a small military presence.

Unfortunately I was not able to make it to the CFB Shearwater Museum.

The ACAM and the CFB Greenwood Museum are an absolute must see if you are in Nova Scotia!

Hi John,

You can find more about Hudson FK 466 at the museum's website.

Hope this helps.

The Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum is a great museum! I have had the pleasure of visiting it a few times myself!

Liked you pictures Mike,,,how did the Lancaster seem to be holding up at Greenwood?

Is the Canadair Argus still at the museum entrance at Greenwood?

The Lanc's at Greenwood and Edmunston don't look too bad, but I guess you can't really tell from just looking at the exterior.

As you probably did see from the pictures that they have added a nose and tail turret to KB839 at Greenwood. The nose turret looks to be built from scratch. The tail turret is a combination of both reproduced and original parts.

Yep, the Argus still sits at the museum entrance.

I wonder what configuration they are returning this Lancaster too! Did any post war RCAF Lancasters ever fly with turrets?

I kinda hoped that one day she might find shelter/hangar to provide some level of protection for the damp Maritime climate...but maybe someday.

Andrew.
The Greenwood lanc is being returned to her early career fit and paint scheme from the 50s. Yes quite a few postwar Lancs had gun turrets fitted, Mainly the MR versions had both front and rear turrets. Our Lanc FM159 only had a front turret fitted and the shell of a rear turret fitted for use as observation.

Peter,

Were the Post War RCAF Lancaster's painted silver or were they stripped of WarII paint schemes and left in a bare metal finish?

I have a photo that looks like bare metal. Must have been fun keeping those polished!

Andrew,
the early lancasters were bare metal with their various markings painted on. Towards the end of their careers with the RCAF, they went to light grey belly, bare fusleage sides with white top of fuselage.

As far as I know, they are still planning to remove her 40" nose extension which was added when she was modified for her post war roll with the RCAF for aerial recon.

Both nose and tail turrets were deleted for this role.

The museum is trying to restore her to resemble the early post war Lanc's that were based at CFB Greenwood.

What was the Lancaster's 40" nose extension used for..did it just provide space for additional observer or equipment?

The extension allowed for radar and a camera to be placed in what used to be the bomb aimer's position.
