My father, Alden (Al) Ian Avery, flew before and during WWII as an instructor (WACOs, etc.) and a ferry pilot (Bell, North American, other) and then as a C-47 pilot in the Pacific from late 1942 onwards. My mother, Doris (Dee) Avery flew as a flight nurse in the Pacific following flight nurse school graduation at Bowman Field Kentucky in early 1943.
There is a beautiful C-47, set up for aeromedical evac, parked on ramp at St Charles Smartt Airfield, Missouri.
God Bless America and her WWII Greatest Generation warriors - keep the memories alive.
Mark Alden Avery, Missouri
