Just couldn't let the day go by without remembering the Schweinfurt attack that occurred 70 years ago today, when about 300 B-17s - crewed by 10 men each - flew unescorted deep into Germany. Sixty were shot down and another five returned so badly damaged they were scrapped. Living memories of W.W. II are fading as the veterans slip away from us, but it is the duty of succeeding generations to honor those who sacrificed to defeat the Nazi tyranny.
For the undaunted airmen of the "Mighty 8th" that flew into the teeth of the most desperate air battles that will ever have been thought, in the words of Sir Winston Churchill, "Let Us Give Them Our Salute."
