This movie has so many memories for me... NOT because of any connexion to submariners.
My Late Brother Bill started watching the German mini-series version on Christmas night 2009- MUCH TOO THE CHAGRIN OF HIS WIFE! :axe:
We stayed up until about 0300 watching it to the last bubble.
And my buddy Dehart had a cat who was dawdling getting up stairs so he yelled, " I Vant to see Steam coming out out your A$$!"
He also pronounced that it was NOT a good first date flick. It turned into their last date.

I saw it in the theatre as the American translated version and I felt shattered by the time it was done.

Great movie!

one of the finest mini series ever made. remember watching this as a young lad when first released on uk t.v
much prefer the mini series to the far shorter movie
watched it several times more and although over 30 years old now still beats the hell out of most war movies released since then
the splosh of the depth charges, ping of the asdic...put it through surround sound and its a totally gripping experience
dont go for the dubbed version, watch with sub titles and prepare to be immersed until the end

I read where the director of the movie contracted the company that built the U-boats with the help of blueprints from the museum in Chicago to build a complete full scale replica and several sections in full scale for use in the movie. Apparently, they took authenticity pretty serious! I give it a 5 out of 5 simply for that!
