Reality: the flying tigers (actually, the American Volunteer Group) was a unit that accomplished little, save, helping aviation trainers discover the strengths and weaknesses of the Japanese Zero fighter. The AVG was chronically short on money, materials, and airworthy planes. In the movie, they were depicted as a modern day, well equipped and looked after deterrent to the Japanese. Of course, it was WW2 and it was important to crank out propaganda films to make the public feel bettter about the war effort. The movie is a good chance to loook at my favorite fighter-the P-40. For the P-40 alone, I give the movie two stars out of five.
