This is an old flick. It would have us believe that the defense of New Orleans in 1814 was carried out by gentlemen. In actuality, New Orleans was the stronghold of a ruthles pirate named Jean Lafitte. Lafitte, among other things, traded and sold slaves. His alliance with the US Army was an allliance against a common enemy, instead of an alliance of principles. Adding, had it not been for Lafitte and his men, the US likely would've lost the battle. In the movie version of the battle, Lafitte and the Army general were photogenic gentleman united against bad guys. There isn't the hint of drama as there should be before a battle. The movie isn't realistic. If you like watching matinee idols of the 1930's, and you suspend your disbelief at the door, this is your movie. If you're a student of history-two thumbs down. I give this movie one and a half stars out of five.
