I'd like to convert my old style canopies to "G" canopies. Anyone have any suggestions? Greg Vallero valdez25@excite.com

Leave the emergency escape bars out and put in the larger plastic panes?

This isn't as easy as it looks on the surface. You will have to buy the bottom rails from Lance, have them milled to fit and then rivet them in. That is, unless you can find a set of G-model canopeis to just swap in.

Greg,

I'll post some pics for you tomorrow. I've gone through what I have and so far I've found 1 ea. forward slider, 3 ea. center fixed and 3 ea. rear sliders for a G. They are "as is", unless we can work something else out. I have completely dissassembled one and it really cleaned up nicely.

Here are the pics I promised. They need glass and weatherstripping. Last time I looked Lance was running a special on canopy rollers and hardware - $125 for 16 rollers, enough to do the whole airplane.

Sorry about the size of the files. I need to figure out how to post the email version of my pics (smaller file size).

Thanks so much. Can you send a small piece of glass with the canopies? I'd like to show it to the auto glass store so they can measure its thickness, and see how to bevel the edges. Hope I can help you someday.
Thanks, Greg

Any possibility some of the extras could find their way into my hangar?

They're trying to find their way now!

I guess I'll eventually post these under parts but I've been hesitant...but I need to start moving some of them. Greenhouses, doghouses or playground toys, they gotta go! Unless about a hundred T-6s loose their canopies at once...

Hi Chunks,

I know it's a long time since you had these canopies available, but do you still have some spare still? The front and rear canopies for my T-6 project have been stolen along with our main landing gear legs and exhaust, so we're on the look-out for replacements. Do you have any available, or know of any? We have new glass waiting to go in, the large one piece side and top panels, but need to replace the frames which is rather frustrating.

Many thanks

Yak3, pm sent. I just stumbled across this or I would have responded sooner. I have canopy sets, gear legs and exhaust components available. Let me know what you need and I can likely help. Better yet, if you are anywhere near or want to travel to Houston, I'll let you in the hangar with a shopping cart.

El Chunko, how is your spinner supply? :drink3: I am doing a lot of repair and rework on these. Let me know if you have anything bumping about your wonderful parts garden. 8)

You can, if you have an extra backing plate. I have a good dome and good horseshoes, but a backing plate that looks like it was "repaired" with an arc welder.
