I need to get my R-1340 core off of the hangar floor (it's resting on a pallet w/dunnage), and am looking for ideas for an
R-1340 engine stand.

I have an old / spare engine mount I could put casters on and go that route, but was wondering if anyone
had something on hand that might work (maybe something that was mounted on a pallet when you received
your overhauled R-1340...???).

Looks like the military had all kinds of neat fixtures / stands they used at the overhaul depots, so maybe something
like that is out there / available as well. Need something I could put casters on so I can move the thing around the
hangar.

Ideas...???

Thanks,

Bela P. Havasreti

Is this just for storage or to work on it? You could make a pretty simple stand with a an "X" on the floor with a pipe welded vertically to it. The accessories would be pointed up then. You could assemble the entire QEC that way.

I have seen orig type stands on Barnstormers and ebay from time to time.
I made shipping stand/storage stand that kept the engine vertical that I welded from slotted steel U channel.
It is basically a U mount that most of the engine mount locations bolt up to. The engine can be removed from the A/C and lowered onto this stand. In addition there is post that supports the prop shaft.
The whole thing is bolted to a heavy duty pallet and for shipping there is a plywood box that covers it.

PS: The stand will be for storage for the time being (putting removable casters
on it is a good idea).
