Does anyone know of anyone (other than Lance) who supplies undercarriage seal kits, along with other hydraulic kits? I used to get some from Banaire.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I bought a complete aircraft seal kit from Banaire about 12 months before they shut down. Recently I pressure tested the rebuilt (with Banaire seals) maingear retract rams & at 1500psi (1.5 times system pressure) they leaked pretty badly at the outer cylinder mounting end where the cylinder pivots slightly on the fluid transfer pin during gear movement.

After disassembling the rams our volunteer professional hydraulics engineer checked everything out & declared the seals.... well... something like "not very good".

He recommended off the shelf available modern type seals of the same dimensions from a supplier here in Australia:

http://www.nrseals.com/

I bought the new seals & installed them... bench tested again at 1500 psi.... no sign of any leakage & everything "felt" much better going together.

Of course the supplier of the seals was not approved by our regulator but neither was Banaire for that matter.

These were the only Banaire seals which have given any problem so far.... all other's seem ok.

Hi Jason.
Do you have the part numbers available for the NR seals?
Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike

Yes... I'll give you the part number, I just can't do it right now as it's at work... I must admit I got too busy during the week to make time to locate it.

Standby.

Regards
Jason

Ok... the Norman Richards part number is: 30-18701000-250.

Note that these seals have an energiser ring installed in the groove which needs to be removed & also a small tab in the groove which needs to be carefully cut out with a scalpel.

Also... the aluminium spacer that's located between the seals needs to be machined down (shorter) as these seals are a little thicker at the bottom of the groove than the ones that Banaire supplied.

When both seals & the spacer are installed, the outer seal should sit 0.005-0.010" below the land where the retaining nut bottoms.

Hope this is of some assistance?

Jason
