One of the driving forces behind the warbird community is flight simulators. This forum is to discuss all aspects of flight simulators, primarily combat/military based software but GA simulators can be discussed here as well.

Just got an old copy, is an amazing sim, never knew there was something as real as FS9 or even FSX... Win XP rules!
Would be nice just to just play pseudo-ace from the start.
Thanks,

If you really want to enjoy IL2:1946, here is what you do.
Get a copy that is either upward or downward patched to version 4.12, then go to the site sas1946.com. You can get an up-to-date version that runs on Windows 10 right now on GOG.com for $2.49, totally legal and copy-protection free. Regular price on both GOG and Steam is still a mere $10.
The guys on sas1946.com have patched and modded that program to an incredible degree with updates to graphics, mission builders, and over 1,000 different aircraft from pre-WWI to the 1980s. You will have to download many gigabytes of patches but if you get the full B.A.T. package it is pretty much turn-key, as long as you follow the directions. Countless missions and campaigns are included with the patches and/or on the web site.
The game still plays very well. It ain't the current-gen IL-2 or DCS, but it is unbeatable for variety of aircraft, maps, and scenarios.
Happy shooting!
