My Normandy Pictures Are Posted

Hi All,

I finally got the Normandy pictures sorted out and posted. I have added commentry which you can see when you click on the thumbnails. My better half, Catherine, has let me post the pics in her Webshots account. To view them go to...

BTW... The majority of the pictures were taken at Juno and Gold beeches, landing beeches for the Canadians and British forces. I did not get shots of any of the American beeches as security made it impossible to get to them. It is too bad as I would have like to have some pictures of the Omaha defenses.

It was certainly surreal. The moving experience was listening to the veterans tell their stories at a few open microphone sessions on the ship. A few could barely get through conveying their experiences to the audience. That was the moving part.

As for the beeches... Catherine and I watched "Saving Private Ryan" that night in the ship's movie theatre. It really helps you to appreciate that film after having been on the beechs.

BTW... I forgot to mention that a C-47 did a fly-by at about 200' ASL right over our heads down the length of Juno beerch when we were on the beech. I wasn't able to note any markings, and I didn't have my camera ready. Darn!

Also... I spotted the BBMF Lanc at the airport at LeHavre when returning from another excursion. I also saw a Dak there as well. Same as above? Another passenger on the bus spotted a Spit as well as we were passing by.

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting photos. I liked the one that showed the hedgerows as they still are today. Must have been a wonderful trip.

Mike,

That shot of the collapsed battery... that was one of the sites we visited in March. Yes, the battery has deteriorated significantly even since we visited... they had just installed the fence a few weeks prior due to movement of the concrete, looks like they placed it just in time.
