I don't know about John buying five B-25 bombers from Dothan, but I do know there are some that he bought that we never saw in San Marcos. There were two from there that came to San Marcos. There were three additional B-25 bombers on the ramp at the time. They were "Shady Lady", "9G", and "Laden Maiden" (former "Catch 22").
Vernon Thorpe flew on of the two old fire ant bombers in. It was in sad shape. I think that might be the one that's "Maid in the Shade". It's been a long time, and I was VERY young at the time, but I think it's the one that had a crack in a cam in the prop dome, or something, that would have caused big problems if it had finished breaking on the way to San Marcos. The other one became "Yellow Rose". Rose had a hard nose and white paint on top when she came to San Marcos, with "Dothan Aviation" and "Wheeless Airport" on the side of the cockpit.
