The Hickory Aviation Museum in Hickory, NC is hosting a gathering of Tuskegee Airmen on Saturday, May 28th. There is a poster for the event at http://www.hickoryaviationmuseum.org/pa ... /flyer.pdf. They will present a program honoring the 332nd Fighter Group, the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II fame. Five survivors of the 332nd will attend, along with a P-51 Mustang on display. This is a rare and unique opportunity to celebrate the achievements of an eminent group of airmen. The poster also lists a T6 Texan and a PT-17 Stearman attending. Song, speeches and presentations listed as the entertainment. No idea if they plan of flying any of the attending aircraft. But sounds like an excellent opportunity to meet some real aviation heroes.

I made it over to the Hickory Regional Airport for the Tuskegee Airmen Unity Day event. Here is a news report from the Hickory Record on the event: http://www2.hickoryrecord.com/news/2011 ... r-1074345/. Fabulous day and a large crowd greeted the Tuskegee Airmen. I was able to spend some time with three of the Airmen and was greatly impressed with these men's willingness to spend time with everyone there. They were more than happy to sign autographs, answer questions and have photos taken with anyone who asked. There was a Harvard Mark IV and the CAF P-51 Mustang in attendance. I took numerous photos and have included them with this post. I would like to thank the attending Tuskegee Airmen and the folks at the Hickory Aviation Museum for putting together a wonderful event.
