I took these during the 2007 Randolph Air Force Base Air Show. They are of the display of training aircraft near the BOQ. The T-33 is directly in front of the BOQ main office and the display aircraft are directly across the street from the T-33.
Nice display, though I'd love to see them airborne!

It's a beautiful base and my father was stationed their for a bit for Aero Medical School for Flight Surgeons.

Aside from the T-6, they look nice.
The Texan looks like another example of a local base paining a historic aircraft in incorrect, later scheme (are the Langley F-86 and F-105 still painted F-15 grey?) In other words, they didn't have any silver or yellow just white and grey paint. Grey isn't correct for trainer-era T-28s or T-34s either, but they don't look too bad.

Anyone else notice it's not a "G" model, that makes it fairly rare.

Years ago, I stayed at the Randolph VOQ for a weekend and it was nice. Southwest/Spanish style CCC-era buildings with verandas. Possibly the prettiest base in the USAF.

IIRC, whereas many AF bases started as open fields and grew into bases, Randolph was the first base designed from scratch and then constructed, hence the circular streets, the Taj, Auger Inn, etc.

Randolph was indeed designed from scratch... it was the "West Point of the Air' in the late 30's. About a third of it was built from my great-uncles farm.... it was THE pilot training base until the war pipeline really got started... it was the first base for the PT-13D Stearman... as far as pretty USAF bases it is tied with Maxwell in Alabama... same era. It is also were I got my private.. at the aeroclub, once upon a time.

Man those shots brought back memories. I went through FTD for T-38's there in 85 and I love the look of that base.

Pretty neat Gunny. As a Auburn ROTC student, my roomie and I would drive to Maxwell in order to fly at their Aero Club (A disappearing feature on many military bases). Little did I know I would end up spending the bulk of my career in the C-130 outfit there. I need to take a camera for WIX and snap some shots of the Daedalian room in the Maxwell OClub where Jimmy Doolittle, Hap Arnold, Curtiss LeMay, and who knows who else has hung out. Cool base, neat history.

The rear canopy is wrong for a T-6F, so I would think the ID is wrong too.

Ken-

When I went to the various 'schools' there at Air University I could feel the vibrations in the air... going all the way back to the Air Corps Tactical School.... I'd still like to go back and spend hours in the library!
