I drove by this chopper and the airliner nose about 2 weeks ago? And was wondering if they belonged to someone on this site.=D

Of all types of flying machines, the PBY will always be my favorite. However, the H-21 is a very close second. Good luck with this new project.

FYI: There is a new history on the H-21 available.
I got it for Christmas and haven't read it yet.
Even if it's poor, it will still tell me more than i know now! :)
Looking forward to reading it (although some of the phot reporduction seems to be so-so).

Now that CH-21B Shaky Magoo is officially "ours", we're in need of your assistance. We need donations of:

- reference documentation such as the Erection and Maintenance Manual, Pilot's Manual, and so on;
- parts;
- restoration supplies (paint stripper, stripping supplies, rags, towels, tape, plastic tarps, et al);
- CASH MONEY.

The names of everyone who sponsors or assists this restoration through donations of reference materials, parts, services, or cash will be included on the sponsor list on the signage that will be displayed with the finished aircraft. The chopper will be an indoor display inside our main hangar.

The move has been delayed until we can get the equipment to load it at it's current location. We need to rent a forklift and there's only one forklift rental place in the small town and they're out of forklifts. Hopefully this weekend or next week.

Jim Kinter here, I was a crew-member on Shaky Magoo, 1376th CAMRON, Turner AFB, GA, 1961-1964. I for one will be glad to see Shaky back in uniform :)

I am pleased to announce that “Shaky Magoo” arrived at the Vintage Flying Museum today! Thanks to all that took time out to come out and help, including Charlie Bathman, USAF helicopter veteran who trained on CH-21’s and heard about the project via http://www.rotorhead.org and came out and got involved. We got her safely unloaded without hurting anyone or anything!

Now the real work begins, our first task is to find replacement tires so that we can tow it inside and start the restoration. One problem we have is that the tires are so badly dry rotted that we can’t read the tire size on the side of the tires. Does anyone know what size tires a CH-21B uses? We’ve been told that they are the same as a T-28, but I have not confirmed that yet. The other item that we are in need of is a good set of manuals. I have found some online, however I don’t believe that this is the complete set, but it is certainly enough to get us started. We are not restoring it to fly (unfortunately) so we don’t need every single manual. If anyone would like to contribute, this is a good way. Please put “Flying Banana” or “CH-21B” on the memo line so we know to apply the funds to the CH-21B project. Please don’t buy the manuals directly and send them to us. There is no easy way of tracking who is buying which manual and we would end up with duplicates and it could be a waste of money. We will have one person at the museum buying the manuals so that we get the most for our money.

FYI the correct spelling is "Shaky Magoo"(see nose triangle on photo above). When 324 arrived at Turner AFB, Albany, GA, in 1961 from CA, it had Shaky Magoo on the nose, I added the Magoo character at that time and modified it later to what you see now. I guess when they repainted it at Pate, the original got erased, but I still have it in memory.
BTW, if anyone on here does Flight Sim(MS FS9 or FSX) I can provide model & textures for Shaky Magoo. That was another project I consulted on with Mr Mick Posch, who created the sim model.
