For authenticity, just remember there is the Bell Manufacturers Data Placard(rounded top) on the right sub panel above the pilots right knee, and the Assoc of Airplane Manufacturers(or similar name, I'm going from memory)Data Placard(rectangular, 4inch by 3 inch) on the left side inner face of the roll over A frame. I have originals of both, they are not for sale. If you search for the P-38 rudder trim placard on ebay(LEFT/RIGHT), the gentleman selling those runs a professional placard shop, and provides a very high quality product. Once you find the P-38 Trim Placard, click on his store or other items for sale , to view his work.

fiftycal, I didn't buy this data plate off eBay. I purchased it in person from the owner. If it is a fake then shame on the person I bought it from. :axe:

So with that said, what is the real data plate made of? The one b747cf has is the same as mine. The picture fiftycal posted sorta looks metal but the way it is cracked looks plastic to me.

Any P-39 restorers out there that know for sure?

stainless steel.

the plastic ones are reproductions.

i tried buying that plate on ebay but his shipping policy wouldn't ship here so it went for $250, if the ebay winner gave it to you for more then poor you. the serial is not even real, but i was looking @ the design

I see that the data plate in the pacific wrecks pictures only has three mounting holes instead of five. Is this the original data plate from the factory? Or did it get replaced during restoration?

If the one I have is not real then $100.00 to the first person that wants it.
