This Mustang is listed as "sale reported" by the FAA. Does anyone know where the plane has gone?

Thanks Martin. B3 E as you know was my Dad's markings when he flew with the 363rd Ftg., 381st Ftr Sqn, 9th AAF. His airplane was "Stinky".

That's a great picture taken at Reno in 1994. That was the first P-51 I ever sat in when I was 8 years old. It was in the late 50's, my father took this a/c out of Sacramento Air Depot when it was purchased by a lady whose name was Joyce Haven. The P-51 was based at Concord's Bucannon field in CA. My Dad did the mantainence work on N2869D until Mrs Haven sold the plane in late 59-early 60. Of course it became the famous "Miss Bardhal" Race 8. When it returned to Reno in the early 90's it was raced by the late John Crocker. I got to crew her when when John raced it at Reno. So, I was reaquainted with her after almost 38 years from when my Dad worked on her. It was such a thrill to be working on her after all that time. We took care of "Maniyak" and 'Section Eight" for 2 years at Reno.

"Section Eight", S/N 44-84390, NL2869D has not been sold, it's being refinished at Airpower Unlimited in Jerome, Idaho, to be flown in 30 days or so! Markings have been changed slightly to C3 reflecting the squadron colors correctly of the 382nd. Squadron. It's still called "Section Eight" and will also have the fighting Cock painted on both sides at the owners request. There was a photo of it in this past issue #7 of "Warbird Digest" on page (4).

Section 8 was also owned by Bruce Ellis in the 80's. It was the orignial test bed for THE Great White hope which was the predecessor for the Allison rod race engines built by Dwight and now by me. The airplane was raced by Chuck Hall.

Is Dwight Thorn out of the engine business now?

I can see that Section Eight is being cared for in the GOOD hands of my old buddy John Lane. :supz: Back years ago Bruce Ellis sent my dad a picture of the airplane in its B3 E markings. Altough dad never flew this airplane, he had a special place on the wall in his den for the picture. The nose art was different from his airplane, but he took pride in telling people that what his airplane looked like. :)
Regards
Robbie
