Rimowa presented their first prototype replica of the Junkers F 13 at Oshkosh. It is a 1:1 replica, though several details differ from the original.

Pic taken by Dan K., of his Oshkosh thread over at the WIX Hangar
Image

- They use a P&W R-985 Wasp Junior as engine
- Landing gear is a modified Junkers W 34 one
- Wheels are off a T-6
- Braking system is a redline T-6 conversion kit
- Prop is a ground adjustable Hamilton Standard

It is intended to launch a small series if customers can be found.
Junkers F 13 was the first full metal commercial airplane made of duralumin.

Enjoy

Nice to see a replica of something different: makes a change from yet another P-51 or Spitfire.

No August, it has not flown yet. Regarding their site they plan the first flight to happen in spring / early in 2016. I guess there is a lot of paperwork still to be done. They obviously wanted to show their prototype at Oshkosh this year. (Maybe in hope to get the interest of some potential customers?)

Beautiful aircraft and looks to have phenomenal workmanship. Asking price is staggering.

Saw it at Oshkosh and it looked great. Interior looked nice with saddle colored leather. Have no idea if there's a market for them but it looks like it would be fun to fly.

I have prepared a small fotostory with pics of the construction at http://www.kaelin.aero in Southern Germany

http://www.airventure.de/news_rimowa_junkersf13.htm

Current plan is to have this machine airworthy as HB-RIM in spring 2016. It is at Duebendorf for installation of the interior flying systems during the next months.
