A few weeks ago, I made it over to the Hagerstown Fly-In in Hagerstown, Ind. This is a Tuesday afternoon/evening fly-in typically held during the week leading up to Oshkosh. As such, it's hard to plan on getting time off work to make it. I was lucky enough that things worked out this year and I was able to make it back for the first time in a few years.

As with my last visit, there was a great variety of rare vintage aircraft. This year's highlights included the 1936 Aeronca LB that would go on to win the Silver Lindy at Oshkosh the following week, a Davis D-1, multiple Wacos, a Fleet Finch and an assortment of vintage taildraggers. A pair of New Standard D-25s were kept busy most of the afternoon and evening giving rides. Homebuilts and some contemporary aircraft were also represented. When I left, more than 60 aircraft had registered. There is great community support for the event.

Next year's event will be July 16, 2019.

According to signage with the aircraft, the 1932 Waco IBA is one of 22 built, only four of which were powered by the Kinner engine.

It wouldn't be Hagerstown without an assortment of Pietenpols.

Excellent. I love seeing Pietenpols still flying with the Model A engine (NX899LW).
