Two planes collided on a Los Angeles-area runway on Wednesday, authorities said. A single-engine plane caught fire. KABC-TV reports its pilot died. The other plane is a T-28, reportedly with Vietnam War era markings. Its pilot was hospitalized.

RIP to the Cessna pilot... Reportedly the T-28 was landing.

The current version is both aircraft were landing & the T28 landed on top of the Cessna. (No ATC)

Very sad to hear and my condolences to all involved. Flying at uncontrolled airports are the only places that make me really nervous when flying. I've had numerous "close calls" over the years while flying with other aircraft in the pattern trying to kill me. It is so very, very important to make accurate and timely radio calls/position reports on Unicom/CTAF in the traffic pattern while flying. I've seen very inexperienced pilots do some really stupid things in the uncontrolled airport environment, including trying to land on top of me and directly causing potential conflicts.

Uncontrolled airports and airspace really concerns me too. I've had a couple of close calls. Most of the issues I witnessed were from "bigger" guys trying to make straight in approaches, which caused problems for those already in the pattern.
Very torn to hear about the T-28 and Cessna (actually, two of my favorite aircraft).

A video showing both aircraft on approach and leading up to the explosion on the runway has made it to reddit.

Oh that is horrible. I watched with my huge warbird excitement as that T-28 flew over my house probably just a short time before the accident. I was even thinking what great timing to walk outside just as the sun was setting to have her fly over into the setting sun. My sincerest sympathy to the news pilot. :(
