This P-51D s/n 44-63865 was assigned to ace Capt Henry Rudolph of the 354th FG 9th AF. He only flew it for a few hours before it was transfered to Sweden but it still seems a shame that they have a aces Mustang and are painting it has a second "Red Dog" and this makes how many 4th FG schemes now??

Jack,
I believe that "Red Dog XI" that just had its post restoration flight and is at Oshkosh right now in 4th FG colors is 44-74459 N1251D.

N151TF 44-63865 is there as well but is unpainted. See this WIX thread for a picture.

I checked my 354th FG records and this P-51D was named
"Sissy Mana". coded FT*J, sported the 353rd FS's yellow
nose and carried Capt Rudolph's 5 kill flags by the cockpit
along with his name.

Next thing you know, Jack will be complaining about how Jack Roush is painting his P-51B, too.

Has long has it's in Old Crow markings I'm fine. In fact every P-51 should be painted has Old Crow!

The 4th FG had a lot of D-models ... far as I'm concerned, we have a looong way to go replicating them all! So boys, stock up on the red paint! 8)

I actually had a couple of restorers contact me about markings research, and I supplied them with all the "Red Dog" info I had. Mike V. was one, and I believe Glenn Wegman was the other. I don't know if they were working on the same project or not - I'm guessing that the 'new' RED DOG has come from one of their shops - otherwise there's gonna be as many 'RED DOGs' as Glam Glens and Old Crows.

I subtly suggested they have the owner look at an alternate 4th FG scheme ... see below.

Ah, that's why I paint ... it's the only way to get what I want on the kite!

Wade

With a little more digging in the material I have. While flying FT*J s/n 44-63865 on it's first mission April 2, 1945 1Lt Ruldolph downed 2 FW-190s at 1600 hrs near Kronach, Gr (where ever that is!) and was awarded the DFC. These were his 4th & 5th kills. I got a email from his daughter today and she promised to send photos!

Old thread resurrection....

I am one of the current pilots of 44-63865, N151TF “Tempus Fugit”.

It is based at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, SC. Here is the website: http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/

I would love to have any and all information that you have on 44-63865, especially any combat records.

I am a new member and I can’t PM anyone yet. I would really like to talk to Jack Cook.

Thank you very much.

I would really appreciate if someone could put me in touch with Jack Cook. I don’t have enough posts to PM him and I am very interested in the history of 44-63865, especially if Lt. Henry Rudolph flew it on the last combat mission in the ETO on 2 May 1945 and shot down two FW-190s in it.

Thank you.
