The Beijing P-61 was bought by Paul Allen and should be in the states soon if not already.

I wonder how much it went for? I've heard that people offered close to $ 1 million for it, and the Chinese kept turning it down.

Can you imagine 2 flyable
P-61s in the next 10 years?

On a somewhat related topic....does anyone know what else is in the Bejing collection and what their fate might be?

I notice in one of the pictures what looks to be a P-47 along with quite a bit of other stuff.

There was a P-51, but that seems to have moved. Also a P-47 ( two listed but only one displayed ), La 11, Il-10, 2x T-6 and the usual Cold War stuff.
The La 9 now flying here in N.Z. was also from the collection.

Well, a well earned thank you to the Chinese for preserving this unique aircraft and it's great to hear that she will be restored now.

Cheers

Cees

Any word on the condition of this P-61? I think it was mentioned on WIX a year or so ago that it was in very bad shape as far as corrosion goes. Any recent information?

Mike

Great News!
A recent issue of Warbirds International relayed the story of someone (Carl Scholl???) inspecting the Bejing P-61 and the corrosion was so bad that one could almost see through the wing....I can dig the quote tonight.
Any idea who is going to do the restoration??
Another on a growing list of restorations I cant wait to see back in the air!!!!

Hi Mike,

You are correct, the condition of the airframe is very poor. Thats the word of somebody (Not me!) who was interested in buying it. When they went to China to inspect it, they decided not to buy when "daylight could be seen through some areas of the wing". I believe the price at that time was in the 2 million range and the Chinese would not budge. I never asked how complete the airplane was but I assumed it was fairly intact since no mention was made to the contrary.

This is Laurent Pater's picture of it from 1998 from the registry.
