Hi Bill,

We used to see your Spitfire out here at the good ole Gathering of Warbirds at Madera CA in the late 1980's and '90's. Always enjoyed seeing it, was about the only Spit in those days to visit Central to Northern CA. Thanks, it was the first Spitfire I ever saw in person. Will miss seeing it at Thunder over MI, good luck getting it back into the air :)

I say the WIX photo should be at the end for the day, Right when everyone tries to run out the gate at once. That way nothing of the show is missed. We can pick an aircraft that day.

I sure I'm not the only one here that stays until I get kicked off the flight line so I figure it will be good timing.

Tim,

Excellent suggestion for the WIX Pic!

I'll second that.

We should also try to arrange a group dinner both nights. Why not? Most of us are there anyway!

To Roger Cain: Thanks for the kind comments, it's 9pm and I am at EAA in the lobby of the Holiday Inn at Fon du Lac. There were some good times at both Madera and at Shafter those days. I enjoyed getting to meet many of the Warbird guys back then, I remember my flight with Tiger Destefani in his P-40, and those boys kept having fun night and day. Tiger then flew with me in my Spitfire and even flew pretty cautiously, especially for a Reno winner. Jeff Ethel and I had his first Spit flight there, another good pilot and a first class person. One thing I never liked about the West Coast was how far across the desert it was to get there. Ever hear about the warbird pilot (not me) who landed at the Stealth Base by mistake instead of Tonapah? Bill G.

No, never heard about that one, do tell.

Shafter was fun too, forgot to throw that one in. I started going there with two other buddies each year, until the museum took a break from it. I made the mistake of parking my wife's car behind Destefani's P-40 on a Friday one time, got slightly sand blasted when he started up. I also remember counting 17 P-51's on the ramp during one of the Shafter shows in the late 90's.

Have fun at Osh, maybe see you at Thunder............

To Peter Cain, the other highlight out there for me was my first P-51 flight in Ridge Runner with Dan Martin. It cost me $175 for fuel which seemed like a lot then, about 1982, but not much now. Bill G

I sent you a PM..........

Hi all,

I'm new to WIX, but not new to Warbirds! I'm a firecracker hoping to mix things up in this boys club! Or at least be one of the gang. :) I'm a beginner in aviation photography, but as my husband Jim Bates told me recently:

"Holy crap, these airplane pictures would be even better with my camera, your not borrowing it, eh!"

I am so excited about Detroit, I tried to convince Jim we could sleep in a tent at the airport, but he prefers a hotel!

That sounds good to me also. I've done group pictures in front of Mustangs before, and lost most of the P-51 to the people in front of it. As the theme is Skyraiders and spitfires, a Skyraider might work better?

Looks like everything is a "GEAUX" for me. Thunderbird is already there... I personally wont be there until Saturday afternoon. If you come by TB in the afternoon or Sunday...thats where you should find me! :D

Tue Aug 01, 2006 2:19 pm

I will be flying in from Denver Friday afternoon. I am looking forward to meeting everybody, and will be doing the Photo Tour Sunday. Staying at the Doubletree in Romulus, so I'll have a rental car. If rides to/from the airport are needed send me a pm. Is there a central meeting location?
