MAAM WWII Weekend 2006: Who's Going?

I am seriously considering making my first trek to Reading for the MAAM WWII Weekend in June and want to know what other WIXers might be going? I am not sure yet if I am going to fly down for the day or make an overnight of it and stay there.

Anyone?

Anyone specifically from New England?

I was planning to make the trip down for Sunday. I can't go Saturday even though I really want to (unless some things change but I don't see that happening). I think Scott was thinking about going also.

I encourage you to go! It's an amazing collection of WWII stuff, all in one spot! PLUS a Lanc and ME-109! It's probably the biggest WWII Re-enactment event in the US that has all aspects of WWII included.
I've been a participant since the very first one in 1989. The only reason I missed it last years show was I had to put on "Corsairs Over Connecticut" on the same weekend!

I'll be there from Thursday to Sunday with American Military Medical Impressions (AMMI). Check out our WWII field hospital. We actually do 'Surgery" on wounded soldiers. It's just like MASH.
You might also catch me by the Corsair with my Chance Vought Coveralls on, so stop me and say Hi!

Will probably be there Friday. Then depending on weather
Saturday or Sunday with better half.

There is just so much to see at this show.
Jerry, I have visited the field hospital in the past at Reading.
Impressive display and I seem to recall it being very hot in the
surgery tent.

Looking foward to seeing the Lancaster.

I'll be there Friday and Saturday. I'm so excited, its my first MAAM show! Anyone have a schedule with times on it. I've been to the website and seen the list of whats going to be there. It says they fly Saturday and Sunday from 1-4, but anyone have the times and what flys when??? Thanks!

I will be there Friday. It will be my 4th or 5th time. It is a great time, I cant wait!

Is there any advantage to going on the Friday rather than the Saturday or Sunday. I may be there as well, but due to budget limitations it will only be one day. This will also me my first visit to the WWII weekend.

Friday is much less crowded. (This is the key for me!) You have room to move, see the planes, talk to the vets, and get pictures.

You dont get to see the full airshow, but you do get to see many of the planes arriving for the show, giving rides, or just cruising around.

If it is your first visit, and you are limited to one day, I would recommend Saturday or Sunday, to get the full effect. (Battle re-enactment, airshow, all the a/c will have arrived by then...)

Make sure you all stop by henderson field in the pacific area!! our group, the 25th Infantry is doing a guadalcanal impression. supposedly a c-47 is being parked next to us and r. lee ermy will be on the other side of the c-47. but who knows.....

i'm heading up there tuesday nite and thursday nite to do some work on our camp....i'll give a report of what's there on thursday evening. just keep the fingers crossed for none of that r-word!!!

If folks are going to meet up, may I suggest maybe 11:00 or 12:00?
Flying starts at 1300. Ground battle usually before flying.

Last year in Michigan the time picked was not the best, just when the flying started. Some
people were waiting in the assigned place while another group was near the aircraft taxiing out.

As far as a location at Reading, maybe in front of the Officer's (base) club.
It's across to the left looking from the main hanger.
A kinda centrally located 3 sided building which has 40's music being performed at times and
a bar in the rear. Usually an aircraft is parked out front.

Or maybe better and less crowded, under the sandbagged tower where
Brian's (Waltz41) 25th Infantry unit is set up. How about it Brian you find out
if you are in the same place this year yet? If you are out in the boonies maybe this is a bad idea.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

I like the idea of Getting together in Brian's area. See what his location offers for a back drop. I'd say 11:00 is a good time, Anyone??? Both Saturday and Sunday???
