Hello All,

On Saturday September 2nd Vintage Wings of Canada will be holding their last Fly Day of the summer. This is not an airshow, but for many canucks this is one of the last aviation events of the summer.

I will certainly be there (Gatineau), and would like to another of any other WIX nuts will be there as well. The Canada Aviation Museum is only a short drive away and could distract some WIX people with cameras for a few hours. The Ottawa airport also has some great spotting locations if like large flying cigars. So perhaps an Ottawa tour can be arranged.

Catherine and I would like to hold an evening get together (Kanata) after the event. I can't be there immediately after the Vintage Wings event, but certainly would like to host a gathering.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Mike

Mike, it looks like my arm has been twisted and I’m planning to be there. My plan is to come up with Steve but we will see what he wants to do. Berni will be working unless she wrangles out of it :). By the way she is gone for a few days and has no idea I'm making these plans :?

Looking forward to seeing you guys there. It is not an airshow, but it should be a good time. The Pitts Specials guys will be there as well and may try and get in some practice aerobatics.

Vintage Wings of Canada (VWoC) will be holding our fourth Fly Day on Saturday September 2nd.

We have been looking for people with classic aircraft to come out and visit during the Fly Day. So far it looks like a Fleet 80 will be dropping by as well as a return visit by the Lacombe family with their Harvard, Piaggio-Focke Wulf 149 and possibly a T-34.

Another return visitor will be Bob Fassold with his DHC-1 Chipmunk and if so will give rides for a fee. Bob’s Chipmunk is a former trainer of the Royal Canadian Air Force, so if you have never had a ride in a warbird before this could be your chance.

Peter Ashwood-Smith from Gatineau may be practicing aerobatics in his Pitts Special that day. Peter also expects there will be more Pitts from elsewhere in the area visiting. If the weather cooperates we just may get a chance to see some formation aerobatics.

There will also be some vintage cars visiting from the Anitque Automobile Club of Ottawa. Last time they brought a 1936 Auburn Cabriolet and a 1958 Edsel. We are very much looking forward to what they will be brining along this time. Along the same line there will also be two vintage fire trucks on site.

A radio controlled model airplane club from the area will be visiting and displaying their aircraft. If we have a period of inactivity the club will be displaying their RC planes in the air.

Unlike the last time, the Mustang and Hurricane Mk IV will be in attendance. In fact none of the fleet will be away and you will have the opportunity to see all of them on display in the hanger. Our Fly Days are used to give the pilots an opportunity to gain flying time, so some of aircraft will be flying, in particular there is a possibility the Mustang will be flying.

Feel free to come out and enjoy some time at Vintage Wings. The gates of VWoC will open at 10 AM and remain open until 2 PM. In the event of the flying operations being grounded due to weather, VWoC will turn the event into an open house where you will be able to come inside the hangar and view the aircraft. So rain or shine you will be able to come to VWoC and see something!

We hope you enjoy your time with us. All that we ask is that you read the following guidelines and tips to help ensure you safely enjoy your day.

Regards,

Mike Henniger
mrhenniger@AerialVisuals.ca

• VWoC wants you to enjoy yourself during your visit, but in the interest of safety we ask that you pay attention to our staff and volunteers. From time-to-time they may ask you to leave an area if an aircraft is being moved. Safety comes first!
• Please note this is not an air show. We are simply letting you know this is a day when flying by VWoC and friends is likely to take place so you can come out to view the activity if you would like. If there is poor weather, mechanical problems or any other difficulty that would make flying unsafe, there will bill no flying. Safety comes first!
• Washrooms will be available at the Gatineau Airport Terminal building.
• Food services are also available at the Gatineau Airport Terminal building.
• Picnic tables will be provided on a grassy area adjacent to the active ramp inside the perimeter fence, so feel free to bring your lunch. We do not have an estimate for expected attendance so you may wish to bring a lawn chair.
• Attendees are requested to make use of the garbage bins provided if you should have any refuse needing disposal. Loose debris on the ramp can cause damage to the aircraft and put crews at risk.
• Don’t forget your sunscreen!
