Does anyone make a large scale (1/8 or so) Merlin engine kit? I have seen a large scale radial, but never any inline stuff.

Not a kit, but I saw a photo a few years ago of a superb running 1/8 (I think) scale Merlin made from metal, built as a one-off by some engineering genius in the UK! Think the pic was in Aeroplane Monthly?

There are a couple of running 1/4 scalers out there. I am looking for one in order to build a mold to sand cast one out of aluminum. Not as a runner, just a desktop dispay.

The biggest inline stuff would be out of the Trumpeter 1/24th scale stuff or Airfix Spitfire. Also, AMT had the Parts Pack Allison that was re-issued a couple of years back and is easy to find.

Otherwise, there is always scratchbuilding!

Good luck!

I have NO scratch building talent whatsoever  . Thanks for the ideas on the 1/24th scale stuff. I can make that work nicely.

My thoughts exactly.

But if you see how he makes those darn things, you'd think he should charge triple!

Lol, I can't afford one!

Go figure.
