Alright, here's the general idea; we pick a war, a theater and (possibly) a nation, then all the participants build models to represent aircraft that would have appeared within the constraints established.

This thread is to discuss possible campaigns, when the consensus leans one way or another I will make another thread detailing the specific rules for the particular campaign, and that will also include the list of participants + allow everyone to post their "in progress" tips and ask for advice to ensure accuracy.

I am not the greatest builder, but I am looking forward to this.

Most of the modeling forums do similar theme-based "group builds" on a regular basis. They can be a great way to get the motivation to build something.

I thought for a while we should have "Your Dream Reno Racer" theme for a model builders challenge on WIX. It would include both real Reno Racers and ones that are dreamed up.

Good Ideas!

If you go back into the archives you'll find the "dream reno racers" thread i made awhile back. I believe there were some good pics posted for reference.

B.O.B. is also a good idea!

BoB would be okay, but not much to choose from. What about the Desert War? Italy, US, UK, Germany, I think even Ethiopia had some out biplanes that got quickly mashed :)

I am leaning towards the Battle Of Britain and North African campaign ideas....

I think in terms of aircraft involved though, the North African campaign would be more diverse and interesting.

Now what if some of us already have built planes that would fit the theme??? Does that count? :?: I have lots of models that Ive built over the years but just cant squeeze enough time in the day to start the kits stacked in the closet. :?

At one time I was going to do all the LSFM planes in 1/72. I did the SBD, A-20 and P-47 Tarheel Hal. Has anyone else built stuff thats currently flying?

I have modeled warbirds from time to time. At one point or another I have built the CWH Corsair, Cliff Robertson's Spitfire, Bill's Spitfire as when owned by Don Plumb, Regina's Shangri-La P-51C, TFC's Spitfire V, Friedkin's Hurricane XII, the CAF Corsair in its white CAF scheme, and MAAM's B-25 Briefing Time. Sometimes rather than build the warbird, I build the original airplane that the warbird is intended to represent, e.g. I have built the first CWH Firefly and the EAA's Bf109 (Buchon) both in more accurate configurations than the restorations. Most times I convert the model into the warbird and install jump seats, use gloss paint, etc.

Warbird model projects currently in my build queue include Glacier Girl, Bill Ross's P-38, and Mike Smith's P-63 What Price Speed. I also have saved up appropriate decals to do about 15 different Mustangs that are or have been flying since the 70s.

There is an outfit called Thrust Decals that makes ALPS-printed decals for warbirds. Accuracy is variable from sheet to sheet. The proprietor posted here for a short while and promised some of us sample sheets if we would review them here on the forum, but as far as I know, he never followed through. (I know you know this, Trae, this is for benefit of newer members reading this thread.) See

The idea was for a campaign/build thread, not to show off what you happen to have already done that fits the theme... so, who is up for Battle of Britain or North Africa?
