I'd be in for a sheet in 1/72 and 1/48. Possibly one in 1/32 as well.

A friend of mine is making a 1/48th scale Liberty Belle for my office. He is making his own decals for this aircraft, and according to the other 10 aircraft I have displayed in my office he has made for me, this one should be a beauty!! I wanted this as a memorial for her. If I can figure out how to post photos on here, I will do that once I receive the model. His email for models is
ghost@zoominternet.net. He will make any aircraft you want, and they are beautiful when completed!! So far, he has made in 1/48th scale for me, Memphis Belle, B-29 Dauntless Dotty, P-38 Glacier Girl, Norseman, P-36, P-39, A-36, A-26, and in 1/32nd scale hanging on the ceiling is a Pearl Harbor P-40 and P-47D, Dottie Mae!! I have over 200 aircraft on display in my office, and his are by far the best!!

Well it looks like we will have a few options open to us. Would you rather
1) have one sheet that has all of the nose art and code letters on it, but not the national insignias, so you would have to buy Stars and bars. The up side is this would make a cheaper sheet.
2) Have individual sheets for each complete aircraft.
3)Have one decal kit with 5 or different aircraft, but it would cost more.
I am open to all thoughts.

There are lots of sheets of stars and bars in sizes from 'bring your 5X loupe' to huge, they aren't an issue so I'd be in favor of the nose art because when I try hand painting anything as I get older I tend to shake like the proverbial dog and a strand of barbed wire-

I think you'd be fine without including the Stars and Bars. Like The Inspector said, you can source the Stars and Bars aftermarket easily in almost all scales, plus most people building one would have the kit's decals with insignias for at least one plane.

I'm with leaving the star and bar off. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all the aircraft that are gonna be depicted on this sheet are gonna be G models. There are G model kits available in 72nd and 48th, just use the kit supplied star and bar, which should work for all the war birds to be on this sheet. So, option 1 then for me.
So, if we are at the stage to decide the layout of the sheet, we have to be past the point where the ships that will be on the decal sheet have been decided. What will be on there then? What is the final roster of warbirds?

I'd go with all options on one sheet, but without the national insignias or stencils. As mentioned above, insignias can be sourced from either the kit or other aftermarket sheets, and on warbirds the stencils usually vary a lot anyway. The main thing I'm interested in are the hard to duplicate markings like nose arts..although things like N-numbers and other "modern" type markings would be most welcome. If it comes down to it, I can source bigger letters and numbers from the spares box, and personally I would most likely mask and paint things like colored stripes and such.

personaly i am an all in one kinda guy. money's tight for me so i would like ALL the decals on one sheets. (national insignias included!)( 1/72'nd scale might need stripes as well)

Pay a visit to the trains/railroading section of the hobby shop where they have acres of teeny tiny dry transfer numbers and letters sheets in black, white, and yellow used for box cars and rolling stock that will 'get it done' for 2" registration numbers.

I've gone that route and have been able to "get it done". I cant find the correct sizes, and cant find all fonts. I'm currently working on fuddy duddy and sentimental journey, and just found it easier to make the decals for serial number, especially for fuddy's serial. I found the correct font on dafont.com, it's USAAF stencil.
I would not want to see any stripes on the decal sheet, and national insignias can be source from the kit you are building's decal sheet.

SUPERSCALE (formerly MicroScale), as well as other decal makers make USAAF numbers and letters in all scales and pretty much all the known colors from red to yellow to black, etc. etc. and in correct fonts.
What I was referrring to was teeny letters/numbers for the current N # which are usually in 2" letters/numbers on the real thing and would be next to microscopic in 1/144th kinda like this ..... .
Howzabout group fin/wing decals triangles and letters, B's J's, H's, etc?

I see, you mean the numbers for the civil registration numbers?
And yeah, I'd love to see a sheet of nothing but various bomb group marking! I suggested this to 2 differant manufacture's over on the arc forums, it hasnt gone anywhere.
