Airfix 1/72 Birddog

Just finished this classic up last night.
Are those the kit decals or something different? I have one of those on my shelf.

I made the mouth by scanning the 1/48 Model USA sheet and printing them on white decal paper. The rest are either from the kit or scrounged.

Did you cut the rudder out or was it cast like that?

I cut the rudder and elevator as they're pretty thin and it's easy to do.

Next challenge! Turn an AIRFIX AUSTER into a Taylorcraft with an 85 on it. Did one years ago, it isn't that hard.

NOPE! I did that conversion over 30 years ago with plastic body filler and balsa wood for the cowling and a couple of photos, back when if you wanted a special variant or model of an airplane, you manned up your creative skills and MADE the conversion, you didn't buy it from SQUIDRUN SHOP. It's long, long lost now-but since the AUSTER is basically a TCRAFT, get with it.
I did, in the same time frame a couple of XF4U prototypes. 1 with the brand new birdcage kit in 72nd and one for a friend out of that awful REVELL 1/32 CORSAIR. The 72nd I did as a proof of concept, and applied the mistakes and mods to the 32nd scale one which turned out pretty good. Had to figure out lots of stuff and where to put cuts and repairs but, it's fairly easy to do too. And mine came out much truer to the real one than the one Paul Boyer did a couple of years ago in FINESCALE because I was working for a series of six views that are in a really old AIR CLASSICS
(that I still have somewhere).

, Nice little Bird Dog there spooky. I've never seen one of these up close in the flesh but I have seen the Sai-marchetti turboprop Super Dog version. There's one lives at Luskintyre about 35 minutes drive from where I live. I have only seen it out of its hangar once and on that occasion it did fly. Had an impressive take off run and climb angle and rate.Cheers,
