B24 H correct markings and nose for balsa model

I am getting ready to begin a build on a B-24 H Liberator My dad was the navigator on the Georgia Peach 42-51106. That lwent down in Switzerland 11 July 1944.

This is a balsa kit but I believe the nose is of a J. I would like to build it as close as possible to the orginal plane and looking for supplier of decals etc.

I have pictures of the plane in when interned showing the correct 392nd BG markings 576 Squadron.

Any help on finding source for decals etc. would be appreciated. I plan on possibly putting electric motors in her and actually flying her. I have other RC planes I fly.

Welcome to WIX! If you need answers to questions about aircraft this IS the place! J Baugher's site shows 42 51106 to be a Tulsa OK built B-24H-25-DT so maybe TULSABOY would be a good contact to cultivate. The J style nose and forward turret are correct, but everyone who made B-24's put their own twist on things so GOOGLE IMAGE B-24H and you'll find lots of detail photos to help out. If you are doing the GUILLOW kit decals will be an issue as the kit is about 1/28th which is an odd scale, but you might find something close by using dimensions from the kit decal sheet and a thorough investigation of the decal books @ your local big hobby shop with a scale to do some serious measuring, you could wind up doing some stuff free handed so lay off the triple lattes' , and keep us up to speed on your progress!

I was planning on building the Guillo kit. Since the markings are very simple I hope to be able to reproduce by using a local artist when I reach that point. The plane did not have nose are and the markings were 'A' with black horizontal stripe on the vert. stabs and a C1 on the fuse. Other than stars I do not believe there were much else on it.

I was hoping to be able to find a Jack Stafford kit and fly it but looks like they are hard to find and just the kit is 400.00 out of my league it would be 2 grand by the time I got engines etc. on it.

I will keep you posted on progress.

Your comment on the costs involved reminded me of why I never could get into flying models, recurring visions of watching 2 grand sail away in the sunset and no way to make it come back, or worse, watching 2 grand do a half loop from takeoff and becoming flooring for Sparrows nests (seen lots of videos of that)

It would probably also have the serial number "251106" painted on the inside of the tails (in yellow if it was an Olive Drab aircraft, black if natural metal.) The squadron code indicates the aircraft was from the 567th Bomb Squadron, 392nd Bomb Group (the "A" on the tail would be the individual aircraft letter.) Here's a photo of another B-24 from the same squadron showing the tail markings.



She probably also had a "D" in a black circle on the upper right wing, as seen in this photo. It looks like the letter itself is bare metal..probably simply masked off when the circle was painted.

Thanks for the great info. I believe a minor typo, all the records show the plane in the 576 BG.
I found the circle D but was not sure it was on the wing but now I am conviced it needs to be there.

I just finished buildinng an RC flying boat and will be making first flight soon. I sure hope it does not become a fish attractor!
