I made a similar post a few years back around this time of year....

What was the best Christmas model gift you ever received?

For me (and Im dating myself) it was getting a few of the WW1 Aurora kits...never did get the Spad 13 though...had to spend $$$$ to get that off Ebay many years later.... :o

Not aviation-related, but...

The classic Renwal "Visible V-8" kit! My Dad and I spent many enjoyable hours together building it and making it work. I didn't get to spend a lot of time with my Dad just doing fun stuff, so this was especially important to me.

Dean's post above reminded me of the year I received my Revell Phantom Mustang. Best gift ever! (That's not mine in the picture.)

I have two Monogram Visible P-51 kits; an original and a re-issue...the latter I may build one day for my grandkids...the former and a few others is the reason I have to work till age 90

I would have included that kit in my Christmas list but my Dad stayed up till 3:00am the night before my birthday to build mine..

True story...prior to the CAF Dixie Wing restoring Red Nose it was in parts in the big hangar at Midland. Staring for hours at my Visible Mustang I could pick out components on the hangar floor as I knew their shape from seeing them in the model!

That RENWAL engine was based on the mid 50's PACKARD OHV engines that were either 352 C.I. or punched @ the factory to 374 C.I. but didn't stay in production more than a couple of years, PACKARD was the last car manufacturer to make the jump to OHV design and the first to disappear as STUDEBAKER took over bankrupt PACKARD and the last couple years were the ROD & CUSTOM style (back in the little green car magazines days)'over the top' STUDIES dressed as PACKARDS.

All my memorable models were cars when I was little; by the time I started building aircraft my most memorable one was the Monogram 1/48 B-17G. Still have that one, battered by flak damage and being bumped around in the basement for 30-some years...

When I was 12 I got the Monogram Battle of Britain adversaries set with the Hawker Hurricane and Me-109 in 1/48. Loved it, all of the decals and the lines, the differences between the two. fun times.

Monogram 1/48 B-24J. Biggest and most complex kit I had built. Using my own allowance I made it the first kit I ever sprayed (Testors rattlecan silver) and the first to use aftermarket decals (Microscale 48-32 with the sharkmouth, skull and crossbombs).

Sorry I just get excited when someone talks about my grandpappy's squadron. Wish they came out with the other types of shark mouths though.

Great responses....I think I got a B-17 for one Christmas sometime...

I know we got our Dad the massive Monogram B-36 kit that he built before he passed away. The B-36 was one of our favorite stops at the USAF Museum...
