If August is amenable, is there some way to take his spreadsheet and crunch it into html via some computicator script? Might give a great start and then photos can just be added as they become available.

No need to reinvent the wheel. Another possibility is to create the Vintage Registry in a different format from the Warbirds Registry.

If we add a VIX to the WIX, I would prefer it not to be a separate site. I like to click on the "new posts" and filter from there myself. I don't think I have the gumption to search another site- same reason I don't frequent Fleapest or any of the other boards. I stick with the best and spend too much time here already!

If it is decided that populating the VIX with current register information is the way to get started, I'd be willing to contribute my spreadsheet, once I get it cleaned up a little more, or (probably more usefully) discuss with the VIX editors what filtering criteria they would prefer (likely different than mine) and prepare a new sheet based on those. I've become familiar with the quirks of the FAA register file structure and could probably save some time there. I can imagine several ways in which the sheet could be used to auto-generate the needed html code, ranging from the way I would have done it 25 years ago (with a little BASIC routine in DOS) to the way I would probably try to do it now (using mailmerge in Word). I'm willing to try my hand at filtering other countries' registers, too. Unfortunately not all allow downloads of the entire register.

It isnt that difficult to convert a spreadsheet into HTML (assuming it is in MS Excel), you should be able ot copy is straight into a HTML editor (such as MS Frontpage or Aracnophilia) and this will auto generate the scripting

Otherwise it may well be a long scripting job :!:

Hey Scott,

I'd be more than happy to help you with vintage aircraft still in Canada.

Just let me know what you need.

Cheers,

David

Hi Mike,

For some reason I never got this reply in my email, sorry to be late to reply. I was just using my basic list of planes that are numerous in numbers. I too like the Alexander, along with the American Eagle, and a few other rarer types. "K5083" put out the heavy list which I believe did include it. Yes, I will see you at Moffett in another week :D

Orvis, obviously you haven't visited our Society for Aviation History website lately. We have a meeting next weekend covering the USS Macon, and the recent dives on it. We had a cutoff list of 75 people I believe, I don't know if we hit it yet, but I know we were close about two weeks ago. We must have your $$ RSVP by the 6th if you want to attend. More info at: http://www.sfahistory.org/meetings.htm

Scott,
I agree with you on the somebody's-got-to-do-it on the vintage civil a/c but also with BDK. An admirable undertaking but please delegate! You have a full time job running this site and supervising this merry band.

Onward through the fog!
