Warbird Information Exchange

I stopped in on the Wings of History Museum, in San Martin C.A. today. This is the place where I really got my start in aviation when I was about 14. Everytime I show up in the area I make a point of stopping in and saying hi. I took a few shots when I was there so I guess I'll share them.

























This group is a really great grass roots orginization. I would highly recomend stopping in if your in the area. The museum is small but there are some neat things to see. It truly is a labor of love for all of those involved.

the Waco 10 (restored by Larry Stephens, IIRC was the first OX-5 I ever saw and heard run. Going to say late 60's. My dad had the wings at our house for a while, for some paint work.

The American Eagle was owned by Bob Hoeman (sp?). We sold him our INF Waco project which was one of several and constant "airplanes in the garage". Later a buddy of mine bought a Hisso from Bob, which now sits mounted in Ryan M-1 at Seatle Museum of Flight.

Never knew Mr. Clemm had given name of Lennert. I ALWAYS thought his first name was "Von". LOL

Several artifacts on display there at San Martin have personal connections for me. Most notable are the Bobby Reid family ag planes, the Pobjoy engine that was once mounted on Ole' Falin's Piper J-3, which is also on display. Even one of the buildings is named after someone I knew well, Harold Bossheart. He and my dad soloed on the same day, at the old San Jose Airport (King road just north of McGloughlan Ave), in '38.

Unfortunatly I've never seen the Waco 10 fly or even run for that matter. It would be nice, as it looks like a fine aircraft. I'm pretty sure it has remained quiet forthe entilre time I have been involved with the museum, over ten years now( where does the time go?)

I have flown in the American Eagle though. I got a ride back from Watsonville in it quite a few years back. That was something.

The Pietenpol is the first aircraft I ever worked on I started helping with that one right from the get go at 14. Those old guys used to love to shove me into tight spots they couldn't twist into anymore. Fortunatly or unfortunatly it has also become the first aircraft I have worked on to crash. I'm just glad Len was Ok.

As for Lennart Von Clem, You might be thinking of Von Lamb. He has also been very active in the antique aircraft seen in that area.

I've heard him referred to as Lennert (member #5) also, which is his full first name. While I'm still a member of WOH, used to spend a bunch of time helping out down at the museum, and helping sort through the books/magazines before the library was created. I too have never seen the Waco 10 run or flown.

Vaughn Lamb (member #7) was also/still is a very active member of the group, but never referred to as Len or Lennert.
