There seemed to be a fair amount of interest in the Wacos so I thought I would start a new thread showing some of the attendees at the 2008 National Waco Club Reunion. This is the oldest type club and there is an emphasis on the reunion. There are people behind those airplanes and that makes this gathering a bit special! Particularily this year as there was some very inclimate weather. But the show goes on! I spend so much time there gabbing there isn't much time for proper photo taking...especially with my lack of skills! There are repeat attendees from the Creve Coeur event so I won't duplicate those here... Cabins first! Aaaahhhh....colorful delightful flying Wacos, sweet smelling cool turf and not a square inch of hot hard surface to be found. Flying as it should be! ![]() #1 1935 YOC Custom NC15244 ![]() #2 1939 AGC-8 Custom NC66206 ![]() #3 1931 QDC NC11470 ![]() #4 1937 VKS-7 NC17700 ![]() #5 1934 YKC-S NC14620 ![]() #6 1934 YKC NC14073 ![]() #7 1934 UKC NC14010 ![]() #8 The futuristic waaay ahead of its time 1938 ZVN-8 Custom NC1937S and now some opens..... ![]() #9 the one and only hairy chested 1930 CRG NC600Y ![]() #10 1930 RNF NC663Y ![]() #11 1931 QCF NC11427 ![]() #12 1931 ASO NC11253 ![]() #13 1930 ATO NC659N ![]() #14 1941 UPF-7 NC30188 ![]() ...of course safety first....the requisite pass to assure a landing area clear of metal spam cans, coyotes, and rats-with-antlers (deer for the PETA folks) Next year will be the grand show....the 50th NWC Reunion. Plan now....23-28 June 2009, Wynkoop Airport 6G4, Mt. Vernon, OH. |

Again I wonder how did you get all those photos with no folks around? Someone drop a nuke or something and you have a radiation suit? |

Thanks for posting those photos Wheels Up. I have always wanted to attend the WACO homecoming flyin at Mt. Vernon so maybe next year for the 50th I'll accomplish that goal. My Stearman has a civilian paint scheme so maybe I could impersonate a WACO for a day or so? |

Wonderful images of great subjects! Thanks for posting! Obergrafeter, at Creve Coeur there were surprisingly few camera toters around and access to the taxiway and runway for photos was open and easy. Come join us next year! Enjoy the Day! Mark |

Nice clean pictures, thanks for posting. Not too many open cockpit Wacos, and none of the new YMF-5's? |

Sounds like you're too used to those big overblown universal "fitsall" deals! Type gatherings tend to be way more leisurely, very focused, and consequently lower attended affairs. The NWC has in place very structured parking and this aids in having featured planes to themselves. They also get their same spot back after giving a ride so one can plan on it for composition. Every one of the above pics was taken as I walked by, paused, snapped with the cheap point and shoot, and walked on. astixjr wrote: Thanks for posting those photos Wheels Up. There are regular Wahcheeta Wonders in attendance as well as Detroit and Chicago born ships. But next year is 12 months away and an annual inspection is good for 12 months....I gather your bird will be due for another 36 month duration inspection! ![]() ![]() Roger Cain wrote: Not too many open cockpit Wacos,..... There was a near equal mix....many were repeats from the Creve Coeur event of a week earlier and covered in that thread. This event did have a rather broad coverage of models. Weellll, there's a reason for that. We won't go into that here but as Waco Classic is now under new OWNERSHIP, they had every intention of having a ship here but weather failed to cooperate. We had close to 4.5" rain Thurs. eve and t-storms every PM that week. A total of 6" rain locally for the 4 day period. Not very ideal for VFR birds! |
