Post subject:  Jenny gets wings
As a companion to the thread about the Polsen Special getting its wings ( http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... hp?t=27086 ), here's another airplane that got wings over the weekend, the Curtiss Jenny at the Golden Age Air Museum, about 60 miles south of where the Polsen is, not far from Reading, PA.
This isn't actually a Daugherty Jenny, but was restored as such because the museum director's last name is Dougherty. And it's a cool color scheme- if you've seen the photo of the Jenny with a guy hanging from each wing grabbing hats from guys standing on the ground, this color scheme is based on that airplane

We'll have to see if we can get George to bring the Polsen down and we can recreate Long Beach, CA in 1925

Or see if the Jenny can get up to Merritt Field for the fly in, or both!! At a minimum I will supply a plane, pilot (me) camera and photographer for some air to air shots!

Yes, that is a great paint scheme!

Wonderful!

I've always wanted to fly a Hisso-powered Jenny, a "Canuck".

Those photos document events I find amazing considering the ailerons reported in a Jenny.

It's one of those airplanes on my own personal list, for certain.

I have 52 hours now in a Hisso Jenny now, but I too would like to fly a Canuck. The Hisso jenny I fly is a JN-4H so it only has two ailerons. I would like to try a Canucks four aileron system. I was down at Roger Freemans place (near San Antonio) the other day, and he has a nice airworthy Canuck. There is also a real nice one in St. Louis that belongs to someone who posts here. The only other one that flys that I have seen is Skeeter Carlsons and he is based in Spokane. I took him for a ride in the Hisso Jenny recently, and he says his ailerons are at least 40 percent faster then the JN-4H.

I got to fly the St. Louis based Canuck (many thanks to Al Stix), and while it had been a long time since I'd flown another Jenny it did seem like the ailerons worked better, but it seemed to take more rudder than I remembered from the OX ones or the Hisso one.

Interesting. I had a good look at the tail of Rogers's airplane, and was amazed at how different it is. It's the next generation of design, not just a production update. Very unJennyish looking, and I am not surprised that it has a different feel to it. Thanks for the input. Maybe I will get to fly the Tiger Boys Canuck some day.

You need to come out and fly Franks airplane. I can sit in the front seat on my hands to keep the insurance company happy, and I'm sure Frank would be happy to see you. We (Walt, Chris, Robin and I) have given over 200 rides in the airplane now, and frank got 90 hours out of the Hisso TBO wise this first round.

Can't give an exact date, but check the museum calendar and come to one of the events--
