Fine Looking Stearman (Or Should I Say Boeing?!)

I'm continuing to scan the slide collection of my friend Bob Burgess and rather like the looks of this image of a 1942 A75N1. It is still around as the FAA has it registered to Paul Beck in Red Lodge, MN.

I sure hope there was a front seat passenger or some more luggage as ballast in the front seat! I got my first "real world" lesson regarding an aft CG in a Stearman while landing at Lordsburg, NM on the way from Tucson to St. Louis back in 1983. Yikes!

Sorry, but I love the civilian paint scheme. I'm going through an odd phase. I really like seeing the civilian paint schemes on warbirds from back in the 50s, 60, and 70s. I'm trying to find a photo of the Black and Gold P-51 that my father's partner owned in the 60s. Gotta love those giant nursery school N numbers! You have to admit, most warbirds looked stupid with military paint and 12" tall N numbers.

Hi Albert,
A friend of mine gave me a slide of a black & gold P-51 taken at the Watsonville, CA airshow back in either the 60' or 70's. I scanned the slide on my cheapo," Bed, Bath & Beyond" slide/negative scanner. Any idea if the plane in question spent time on the west coast? I have a second slide that I need to locate and has a little bit better profile.

Stearmans are fun planes to fly ! I had the pleasure of flying a friend's plane from the front seat and was amazed at how fun it was ! And the lovely sound of that big radial up front !!! Awesome !

This is a picture of it. It is me in my 48 C-140 right behind it. We were flying in a gaggle of 4 planes to the Carp Fly-In Airshow near Ottawa, Canada where the Stearman was a static display and he came real close on my 4 for the shot. The Stearman is a big airplane compared with my little 140 !

I'm not sure what ever became of the P-51 John had but I'll try to find out. I'm sure he has some photos somewhere. If he finds one, I'll post it in a new thread. I don't want to be accused of hijacking Mark's civilian Stearman thread so here's a shot of mine.

Let's make a point of getting together this Spring for sure. I've got a bit of work to do on the Stearman but I should have it back in the air next week. There are at least two interesting a/c that have moved to Creve Coeur in the last six months. A Bird with a Wright J6-5 and a Great Lakes with a Ranger (I think).

I'm a bit behind on postings, this is probably your red and gold P-51 that is owned by George Perez since the 60's. It was recently put back into the air, flying out of Schellville Airport by Chris Prevost, in an all silver paint scheme. http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/su ... 4483.shtml

Back on the Stearman, I photographed this one on our way home from the Madera Air Show this past Sunday. It is being flown by Bernie Vasquez, and my camera plane, a twin Beech C-45 was being flown by Jerry Anderson and Mike De Castro.
