In a very odd way, reminds me of the Australian-built agricultural aircraft (name and nomenclature, who knows?) that looks like a giant egg with wings; if you recall, it appears in one of the Road Warrior movies. Saludos, Tulio |

Post subject: | Weird Birdz |
Tulio is speaking of the Transavia Airtruck...one of my favorites weird wanna-haves. Basically a flying pick-up/camper..an irresistable attraction for this Texan...it could only be more attractive if it was an amphibian. Ugly in the classic definition of design, beautiful in it's rugged utility. In looking for a photo of the Airtruck, I didn't realize the proto-Airtruck had a Warbird ancestry. The Pellarini PL-11 used a Harvard engine and forward fuselage... www.airliners.net/open.file/277578/L/ A civilian utility aircraft that started life as a military design, the very successful Fletcher FU-24 rests in front of the PL-11. Transavia Airtruck www.airliners.net/open.file/310426/M/ As for Scott's PZL, I seen video of that bird and it's almost amazing how maneuverable that big machine is! I say almost amazing..until one realizes that it does what bi-planes do best! The PZL would also, I think, make a good subject for amphibious...the turbine induction is as far from water ingestion as it could be. Sorry..can't get the Navy outta me |

Post subject: | Optica |
The Optica is another neat one. Flypast has had a good thread or 2 on that aircraft. I vaguely remember a magazine article when it was newish and seem to recall that it was designed by a Civil Engineer, he wanted a helicopter-view without the training. Maybe it was someone in a Flypast thread, that mentioned the Optica presented some difficulties in landing because of the lack of horizon caused by the wide-open view. I'll have to see if i can find it... Scott, How 'bout another weird one..although a bit more attractive, until you look at how the tailbooms are made. A walk-in cockpit for 2, the Anderson -Greenwood AG-14 www.eaa231.org/miscellaneous/what/AG14.jpg I've been tracking these down lately...one is due to fly soon in Arkansas after a thorough restoration. |

![]() True, and I'll wager neither of those broads could haul yer ass and your tools on their backs without a squawk, like the Airtruck can! Dan! Nice photos of the Optica..thanks! |

The Edgley Optica has been an all time favorite of mine! And also, the Fantrainer . . . Of course I like the A-10, and I can even see some beauty in some radial engined aircraft (let me duck and roll . . .) but nothing in my book, beats the lines, sound and beauty of a MUSTANG. Saludos, Tulio |

that russian flying boat monstrosity is cool, but it is also a testimonial why russia is flat assed busted $$$$ wise. the chopper took over for the flying boat right after ww 2, but was not a reality until the mid 50's. |

Should make airnutz happy ![]() You ain't foolin' me Scott..That's the Rohr Industries Ekrano-NukeScone- Puker-3000, a ground effect machine. Hopping down the bay to my favorite fishing spot would become un-fun when I found I couldn't hop over the power lines to get to my favorite bayou without creating black- outs throughout the county. I'd get happier about the Beriev A-40.. www.aeronautics.ru/archive/vvs/a40-01.htm ![]() But I reackon I'm more a milk-toast Seabee weirdo.... ![]() nearer that budget! |
