Luscombe 8E advice needed

A friend in TX is ready to let me have his Luscombe 8E. It has the full electrical system and has been upgraded to an O-200 engine. IT was once a cream puff but needs detailing, and touch up paint. Its a 6 now and could be an 8 or 9 with a couple thousands dollars of paint, wheel pants, etc. Anyone have an idea what these are selling for right now? What to look for on inspection? I can only find 8A's for sale on Barnstormers.
Thanks,

Marine AIr

A friend sold a nice one with a Don's dream machine upgraded C-85 recently. I think the asking price was $25k. Look for corrosion in the wings, and particularly intragranular corrosion in the rear spars. That's a fixable problem, but also one that could cost you a few shekels or <worse> get you hurt.

Thanks for the tips. He bought it with a spare run out C-85 engine which is now no longer part of the deal. He paid around 20K so I have to figure out what it's worth to me. Thanks!

Watch out for Luscombe advice. When I bought my 8A all I heard was how prone they were for ground-looping. I got my tailwheel check out in that plane and never had a problem, yet don't claim any super-human flying abilities. A very sweet flying plane. Probably too fat to fit in one now though... I sold it for $7K back in about 1987. I wonder if the present owner would sell it back to me for that?

Have you tried the Luscombe Foundation? Doug is a good resource
