HAMBURG, July 2 (Reuters) - Four people, including a teenage boy celebrating his birthday, were killed on Sunday when a single-engine seaplane crashed in the German city of Hamburg and burst into flames, police said.
The aircraft, which was used for sightseeing flights over the northern German city, crashed shortly after takeoff near the harbour and came down on railway lines.
The reason for the crash, in which the boy's father and pilot of the aircraft survived but were badly burned, was not immediately known.
Klaus Gneckow, a fire investigator from the Hamburg regional crime office, told NDR television initial reports suggested the aircraft's motor had cut out.
"The pilot attempted an emergency landing at the rail freight marshalling yard," Gneckow said, adding that the plane had then skidded into a goods wagon.
The aircraft was a de Havilland Beaver DHC-2 built in 1962, NDR reported.
