They get the same training that any student gets before solo, plus a bit of other stuff. They must pass an examination flight in order to fly without a student-solo endorsement from their instructor. Basically, it gives the pilot a restricted license just like a solo endorsement, with about the same permissions as most student-solo pilots get. What's wrong with that?

This guy makes a dead stick landing, there were no injuries and you still find something to complain about.
Recently didn't Capt. Sullenberger do the same thing?

Regardless of what type of airplane it was or whether it was good or bad publicity, still scary as hell and got my blood pumping this morning. Glad everyone was ok. The pilot did a great job of making a safe landing without damaging anything...or anyone.

Nicely done - looks like it might be Comp-Air 8 or similar.

Better a landing on the road than a smoking hole in a building or residential neighborhood.

I don't think anyone should be making assumptions about the training and judgement of a pilot based on the type of plane he is flying.

Even if he was flying an ultralight (which he wasn't), that doesn't preclude him having excellent training and judgement. Nor does it mean he isn't a licensed pilot.
