Nice job of flying. Outta gas? I wonder if he videos every flight? Kind of like a cockpit voice recorder only better!

This could also lead to more outcry from the public, and more regulation, It's good they're alive, but it's not really good for the future of aviation when these things happen. It causes negative publicity.

It's also an ultralight, and those guys don't get the same training as regular licensed pilots. Not as well trained in my opinion, and I'm not sure their judgement is that great either.

Sorry Chris, that was NOT a ultralight, it might have been a light Sport or something like a Kitfox.

They get the same training that any student gets before solo, plus a bit of other stuff. They must pass an examination flight in order to fly without a student-solo endorsement from their instructor. Basically, it gives the pilot a restricted license just like a solo endorsement, with about the same permissions as most student-solo pilots get. What's wrong with that?

This guy makes a dead stick landing, there were no injuries and you still find something to complain about.
Recently didn't Capt. Sullenberger do the same thing?

Regardless of what type of airplane it was or whether it was good or bad publicity, still scary as hell and got my blood pumping this morning. Glad everyone was ok. The pilot did a great job of making a safe landing without damaging anything...or anyone.

Did they radio ahead to get every single car off of that road?

and very convenient that they were able to start the engine when they needed to!

Nicely done - looks like it might be Comp-Air 8 or similar.

Better a landing on the road than a smoking hole in a building or residential neighborhood.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

How'd he miss those power lines? And do you think he saw them?

I don't think anyone should be making assumptions about the training and judgement of a pilot based on the type of plane he is flying.

Even if he was flying an ultralight (which he wasn't), that doesn't preclude him having excellent training and judgement. Nor does it mean he isn't a licensed pilot.

Some dork posted in the comments section of the video that it probably was a stunt because of the cameras. Well Chuck Gardner don't be getting a wild ideas  :P
