I think that Boeing should just turn over all their assets to Airbus. It just isn't worth the hassle anymore to try to remain competetive. Imagine where the company would be if they let the union run the business!

And BDK you should understand more than most what happens when the bean counters try to run the company, isn't that why the 'swoosh' on your badge goes the other way? there is huge resentment here in the Seattle/Everett area over what are referred to as S. outh C. arolina A. irplane B. uilderS and the way that Boeing went to a 'Right to Work' state where wages can be kept low, but the Head Shed is in Chicago so the big guys don't have to face those they are disrespecting every day.

And the bean counters are the primary reason why the 787 program is so hosed up, 'Boeing vision 2016' wants to have everything made elsewhere and final assembled @ Everett or East Mule Shoe and all Boeing would be responsable for would be placing a sticker on the door frame that would say 'completed by Boeing' which would require a total staffing of about 15 people to deal with the paperwork. So hows that outsourcing going on the '87?

I'd also like to ask, what is the union afraid of? Competition? Shouldn't the skilled union workers be able to run circles around the unskilled NASCAR yahoos in South Carolina? Here's a chance for the union to prove their merit to the company (and the country).

The Commander went away because it was an aerodynamically inefficient airplane and because the GA market isn't healthy enough to support the efficient aircraft, much less the inefficient ones. And AD's are generally design, not construction issues.

Do you have any data to support your apparent conviction that union built airplanes are better than non-union built airplanes?

And what makes you think that the employees in SC will remain non-union? Just because it's a Right-To-Work state, doesn't mean you can't have unions within it, it just means that you don't have to be in the union to get employment at a location with a union group.

Funny thing is, with the way some unions are, they break the law themselves by retaliating against non-union employees in the right-to-work states. However, the company can't do much about it if the employee doesn't complain and the employees usually just leave or join the union, tying the hands of the company.
