Bits and pieces were collected from the wreck site in the early 1970's and a new airplane was built. The man's name I believe was Rhinehart and lived in California. After about an 8-year rebuild he got it flying. He then decided to try for a world speed record for that class. With his wife on board with him during the attempt he got too low and hit the ground resulting in a cartwheeling crash that killed them both. The airplane was supposedly buried where it came to rest.

Several more replicas have been built with Jim Younkin's being the most successful.

I'm located not too far north of Wiley Post, so I remember following the news of this accident very closely.
