We found some competition for Another Solution this weekend:

We discovered this awesome machine at Baytown, Texas when we stopped for gas on the way home from Houston. (By the way, if you're at Hobby it saves over $2.00 per gallon to head east to Baytown for a top-off.)

Not a whole lot of progress this morning, as I just couldn't seem to get up and going today. Nevertheless, I was able to finish one more piece of that tail fairing, so I'm down to making one last piece for the right side and then making three more pieces for the left side..........

Well, I was finally able to finish making the remaining fairings for the tail today. Yay! The next step is to make the rudder cables, install a fairing for where the cables exit the aluminum skin, and have Bill Coombes make the L/H horizontal tip, along with repairing the others. I'll then paint the tips, and remove all of the tail section, including fairings, so that Ezell Aviation can polish them up for me. While the polishing takes place, I'll start covering the fuselage. Progress is happening folks!!! :D

Here's just a few pictures of today's progress.........

Beautiful!

Figured you'd rope in Bill or someone to help with that wood. Bill is a wood expert. :)

Good to see you moving forward.

Well, I have had enough of that dang ol' airplane that I was tinkering with, and decided to just start over completely.............

Okay, not really. I just have the fuselage stripped down to nothin' so that I could paint the cockpit and tail section of the tubing (the stuff that folks may see from time to time) and left the rest just primed, to save just a few more ounces of weight. ;-) I'm in the process of getting everything else ready for it's final assembly to the fuselage and am hoping to get the covering on it this week. Don't know if I'll make that deadline, but I'm trying.

Looks great Gary. Can't wait to see it in person some time.

Me too! Gary remember my offer if you stop in Bishop CA.

I meant to post this picture yesterday, but simply forgot. This is basically where I'm at with it, having all of the elevator controls, tailwheel assembly, and bulkheads painted and permanently attached. I've started placing the fuselage stringers on the bulkheads now and am hoping to have the fuselage covered before I leave for the Pylon Racing Seminar on June 17.

What are you going to be flying at PrS?

Unfortunately, I'm just going to be a "pedestrian" at PRS. Gary Davis and crew are working hard to get his Shoestring there, but it isn't looking like they're going to make it. He and I were going to go ahead and get our Shoestring check rides out of the way, but it's starting to look like we'll have to do that in September. Nevertheless, it is/was very nice of him to offer me the chance to fly his steed.

I'm sure I'll get to fly in the RV-8 or something at PRS, but right now (unless Gary's airplane is ready), it just doesn't look like I'll be strapping a racer on there.

Here's a quick picture of the airplane after the installation of a few of the fuselage stringers. The progress isn't going as quickly as I'd hoped, but it is starting to at least look like an airplane anyway.........

You know anything with a Texas flag on it has to be fast

Affirmative, Lynn! She looks to be a powerful beast. I didn't take the time to look, but the awesome Vega or Pinto engine (or whatever's under the bonnet) seems to be ready for action. 8)

Yep, and instead of JATO bottles, it has inboard and outboard yellow jacket nest in each wing
