I guess it was only a matter of time before the giant A380 Airbus whacked another aircraft.
Luckily there were no injuries but the video shows the A380 passing behind a Comair jet (looks like a CRJ or Canadair) and the left wing of the A380 smacks the vertical stab of the Comair violently spinning it about 75 degrees. Amazing video.

I think some out there had predicted something like this would happen due to the size of the A380.
Lets hope it's the last.

Boy, you never see an airline ground crew scatter that fast unless the 'quittin' whistle blows!!

Sure does give rise to the airlines rule of 'please keep your seatbelt buckled until the aircraft has arrived at the gate'

That Comair was tossed like a rag doll!

Airport taxiing incursions are my worst fear and the area the gubmnt and the airlines are far behind on.

Must have been caused by all that 'maintenance equipment' on the runway huh?

How many airfields have enough clearance for this 'BEAST' to taxi around on?

Looks like massive JFK is now at the minimum limits.

JFK has specific taxi routes, but it is still the responsibility of the A380 crew to know how big their plane is and to not run into other aircraft with it. Considering that the Airbus was going a bit quick for being in near the terminal and in proximity of another aircraft, I think there's going to be some harsh words for the crew. No excuse for clipping another plane in nice weather like that.

BTW, doesn't the A380 have a tail camera that they're supposed to be using for just this kind of thing?

Wonder what that felt like! I'm sure the CRJ crew was watching as anyone would be as that monster moved behind them. "Man that's gonna be close" followed by "ahhhhh" will prob be heard on their CVR!

FWIW, it is suspected elsewhere the video has been sped up. The rampie turns and runs too fast. Even if the A380 wasn't going as fast as shown there was a fair bit of damage done:

That won't buff out...

From watching the tape it appears that the COMAIR crew may have contributed to the encounter by forgetting that the aft end of their very, very long aircraft was in the previous time zone and apparently didn't pull far enough ahead after crossing the intersection.

Hold short means the nose holds short, and the ass can hang back UNLESS your hanging back over an active runway. Its totally the 380 pilots fault and maybe the controller as a contributing factor for not telling them to give way to the crj.

I just watched a recreation of the accident on a computer generated program that ABC News did, and the COMAIR was cleared across the taxiway but stopped with the aft half hanging out past the double yellow lines into the edge of the crossing taxiway it had just been cleared across, while a pickup truck drove past it from right to left on a service road. The FAA requires 100 ft. taxiway width but gave JFK a waiver down to 75 feet in width. and it looks like the 380 didn't clear the COMAIR vertical by...oh........about 25 feet.
