American Airlines announced today that it will buy both Boeing and Airbus products to update its aging fleet. http://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/aanews.jsp I'm not offering any opinion one way or the other regarding the political and economic aspects of their choices. |

The order will really put a load on the ancient Renton Plant, the production rate was just stepped up to 45 a month from 30+ now it's about to nearly double again, time to revamp the 4-20 and 4-21 buildings where all those B-29's, KC-97/377's, 707's, KC-135's, and AWACS were cranked out. I have some real sympathy for those who will work there as parking was a real P.I.T.A.in the 70's before they sold off so much land for other, outside developments which eliminated a number of parking lots. ![]() But, hopefuly it gets our local economy to stop stumbling and tripping over itself-every new Boeing job means 3 other new jobs for stores and such. ![]() Boeing pretty much admitted @ the mornings press anouncement that their fiasco with the Nightmareliner...er... Dreamliner project has pushed the 737 replacement down the road a ways. I'm a big fan of the 787 and it's advances in technology, but have expressed my issues with the 'partners' and supply logistics involved in turning the airplane into being very late and running as smoothly as driving an unloaded brick truck @ high speed over Belgian Block roads, sort of like having the Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges directing traffic @ the Super Bowl. ![]() |

When AMR bought TWA they acquired 60 brand new 717's, 35 new 757's, 25 new 767-300's, 38 new MD-80's, 63 various vintage 80's and about 65 or 70 DC-9's. All that are left of those are the -80's, and not all of them. AMR will replace the current airplanes with these new ones. No growth, no advancement for those employed. And, orders and options are just promises, like Andrew Dice Clay used to say, "I'll wait." Chris... |

wrong, if they park all the 80's, 757's and 767-200's it still leaves a net gain of about 140 planes. |

Oh, Why would one think that the retiring of 757's and 767's would be beneficial? ALL of the new orders are 737's and A-320's. I'm in this for the pay, myself. Chris... |
