The Boeing Co. and the IAMAW have come to an understanding about the future and Boeing has announced that the new model 737MAX will be built in Renton, WA. Here's the curious part, over the years, Boeing has sold off land around the plant in Renton so I wonder where all those new folks are going to park their vehicles? King Co. METRO Transit goes to the plant in Renton, but a 10 mile ride from Bellevue to Renton can take well over an hour on one of METROS sqaure wheeled meandering routes, and the further away you live, the more you have to transfer from bus route to bus route. Gonna be one huge mechanical Merry Go Round, but at least the work stays here. It means dismissing the NLRB lawsuit over Charleston, but that'll be OK as it will fail of it's own accord. |

Earlier the local media was reporting that Spokane was a finalist. The county had increased the building heigth limit in support of their proposal to Boeing. It would have been at Spokane International, the former Gieger AFB. At least employees could get to the airport, it's about 1/4 mile off I-90. And union memberes might have enjoyed Spokane, compared to the Western side of the state it has affordable housing, less traffic, etc. |

At least it's not going out of the country! It came down to extending the contract with the IAMAW, dropping the NLRB lawsuit against Charlottes plant (which most feel will fall on it's fanny all on it's own) and a few other items. My biggest question is where are the workers going to park in Renton? Most of what used to be parking lots around the plant are now FRYES and other stores as well as huge potemkinlike apartments, and Renton has never been exactly traffic flow friendly. I wqs surprised they didn't choose Moses Lake where it's flat for a thousand square miles and a tailor made facility could go up in no time, and the trains from Wichita to Renton go right by there. |
