For those of you interested in the vast area outside earth's atmoshere known as space-the final frontier, you might want to check out Space Fest at the NMUSAF May 11th & 12th. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/news/s ... =123297723. It seems this could be very interesting! |

I couldn't believe they don't have an Atlas at the NMUSAF. Anyone know if they have plans to get one? |

As I understand it, the ATLAS needs to be fueled or at least full or it will collapse from the weight of itself and the tinfoil thickness skins, SI? NO? Beuhler? Beuhler?? |

The one that was outdoors in the 70s-90s collapsed for that reason, circa 1995. One night its generator pump went out and it went limp. ![]() They had a reinforced (with angle iron) one from IIRC, the Franklin Institute, in front of the restoration area but I don't thik it was ever displayed. |

There's a Mercury Atlas at the Queens NY Hall of Science. Recently fully restored it's been there since the '64 Worlds Fair. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24415055@N ... otostream/ |
