I have had the good fortune to meet Bruce three times so far. It was a bad story in a rock magazine about his interest in Fencing that lead me into that world...which was the place I originaly got to chat with him. That night I was invited to the studio where he was making a solo album, and found out he owned a Zlin and was working towards his commercial rating. Since then he got the rating, and when not on tour flys as a Captain for an airline. That airline leases a plane to Iron Maiden when they go on tour and he pilots it around the world. A few years ago he flew an airliner into someplace in the Middle East to fly a load of British citizens out of an increasingly dangerous area. He has a noted interest in history, tanks, aircraft and pretty much every other cool guy thing you can name. He has hosted radio shows and TV shows on a varity of subjects. (He married the woman at MTV that came up with the phrase "I want my MTV"....).
Bruce has got to be the most intelligent person (and nicest!!!) I have ever met in music. He makes music, writes books and has co-written movies with some fellow named Clive Barker. He owned a company suppling fencing gear (at one point he was asked to join the UK Olympic Team, but decided touring with IM was probably a better long term choice than competing at the Olympics for free...) and has started an MRO to service aircraft also. He also holds an exec position in addition to his duties as a pilot at the airline he flys for.
Now if I could only figure out why they have avoided Florida on the current Maiden tour- first time I have had to miss them in decades..I am so bummed!
